abstract = {The method discussed in the present paper permits the determination in detail of the mesoclimatic conditions on the basis of standard data provided by a network of a measurement stations. The passage from the data available at certain points and obtained from meteorological stations to spatial conceptions leads along the determination of the relationships between the altitude, various forms of the relief, and the thermal indices of climate. Resulting from these data, the duration of the frostless period is a sensitive index in the scale of mesoclimate, besides all the other indices connected with the minimum air temperatures. The nomographs applied by the authors make it possible to construct detailed climatic maps, which - with the maps of other elements of the geographical environment - form a basis for the elaboration e.g. an agrocological map of habitats. Presented method of the evaluation of climate conditions can be applied to all mountain territories, in which a network of measurement stations enables the determination of the interdependencies between the chosen thermal parameters and the altitude, and the distinction of the impact of the convex and concave forms. © 1984 D. abstract = {Wistar rats were used to study the effects of cernitins, i.e. aqueous and oil extracts or pollens, on the metabolic adaptation of the soleus muscle to exercise, vibration and raised ambient temperature. The animals were exposed to selected combinations of these factors for 5 days during 1.5 hour daily. A part of the animals was given orally cernitins in daily doses of 6 mg/kg of body weight for 10 days before the exposure. Among the adaptation changes studied in the soleus muscle, 24 hours after the last exposure, cernitins caused: 1) a reduction of the amount of total protein, 2) an increase in the proportion of soluble proteins in the protein fraction, 3) an increase in the tissue oxygen consumption, 4) an increase of already elevated pyruvate kinase activity, 5) a further rise in ATP level, 6) an increase in lactic dehydrogenase activity, 7) a rise in the activity of cholinesterases. Moreover, it increased significantly the body weight and the weight of the studied soleus muscle. Cernitins, in combination with certain types of exposure used in this experiment, exerted a catabolic action, increased the rate of anaerobic metabolism and enhanced adaptation to exercise, vibration and temperature. The direction of the adaptation changes depended on the type of exposure to environmental factors.},

abstract = {Variations of the elemental relative rate of growth are modeled for parabolic, elliptic and hyperbolic domes of shoot apices by using the growth tensor in a suitable curvilinear coordinate system when the mode of area growth on the dome surface is known. Variations of growth rates within the domes are obtained in forms of computer-made maps for the following variants of growth on the dome surface: (1) constant meridional growth rate, (2) isotropic area growth, (3) anisotropy of area growth which becomes more intensive with increasing distance from the vertex. In variants 1 and 2 a maximum of volumetric growth rate appears in the center of the dome. Such a distribution of growth seems to be unrealistic. However, the corresponding growth tensors are interesting because they can be used in combination with other growth tensors to get the expected minimum volumetric growth rate in the dome center.},

The spectrum of the coal and the residue after extraction consisted of two lines. In the case of the extraction residue the width of the narrow line remains practically unchanged compared to the initial coal whereas that of the broad component decreases. The extracts exhibit a single line with a width close to that of the broad component from the extraction residue. The concentration of paramagnetic centres in the residue and extracts is lower than in the coal. The decrease in concentration is higher when the extraction yield obtained with the solvent is higher. Quenching of paramagnetic centres is found to be related to the destruction of intermolecular bonds of the donor-acceptor type in the coal. © 1984.},

abstract = {The Devonian and Carboniferous carbonates outcropping near Debnik in southern Poland form a unique reference section which is important for detailed correlations with similar deposits covered by the Carpathian nappes and underlying the Upper Silesian Coal Basin. Basing on the cored borings and on outcrops six informal lithostratigraphic units have been described representing the Devonian sequence of this area (from base to top): 1) Zbrza Dolostone - thickness over 260 m. 2) Debnik Limestone - 35 m. 3) Nodular Limestone - 28 m. 4) Grained Limestone - over 34 m. 5) Platy Limestone - over 70 m. 6) Grained and Micritic Limestone - thickness unknown. The described carbonates rest discordantly on the quartz porphyry intrusion of the post-Devonian age. Their upper boundary is unknown and overlying Lower Carboniferous strata are developed in highly comparable carbonate platform lithofacies. The lack of key fossils precludes dating of the basal part of the profile. The lowermost biostratigraphic data were obtained from near the contact of the Zbrza Dolostones with the Debnik Limestone. They point to the Givetian age, just below the Polygnathus asymmetricus conodont Zone. Basing on the conodonts the Givetian/Frasnian boundary corresponds more or less to a lithologic transition between the Debnik Lst. and the Nodular Lst. The Frasnian/Famennian boundary runs within the Platy Lst. unit. The youngest conodont fauna found within the lower Grained and Micritic Lst. unit corresponds to the crepida- rhomboidea Zones of the standard conodont division. English summary},

It was found that the mineral consists of chlorite and mixed-layer chlorite/vermiculite. Using Mering's method it is shown that two types of structure are present: the chlorite content is 80% in one type and approx 30% in the other. Three granulometric types of fluvioglacial sands and gravels are differentiated. abstract = {Results of research on the possibility of determining fracture zones of the rock mass, particularly in seams liable to rock bursts, with the use microseismic source location technique are presented. A network of geophones was installed ahead of a working face and the microseismic activity initiated by blastings was recorded on a multichannel tape recorder. Reading off the time differences of first arrivals on consecutive channels with an accuracy of 0.2 ms, and determining the P-wave velocity in the area, the source co-ordinates of a number of impulses were calculated. The measuring method and detailed results are described. The location error was verified in practive, and for sharp arrivals it was no greater than 10m. The analysis of results indicates the fracturing of the rock mass ahead of the longwall face, mainly in the coal seam and in the firect roof rocks. Taking into account the possibility of attaining such a location accuracy, we may expect to be able to apply this method to determining the rock mass fracturing zones in coal seams liable to coal bumps; its practical use, however, seems to be conditioned by automation of labour-consuming interpretation of the records.-English summary},

abstract = {The results of tests on the locating of seismoacoustic pulse centers in a coal seam being worked are presented. A network of 4 to 6 geophones installed ahead of the working face at distances of 40 to 100 m apart was used. Using controlled blasting the P wave velocity was determined in the observed area. The locating of the pulse centers was carried out on the basis of differences in the pulse arrival times at successive sensors and on the basis of the known wave propagation velocity. In the case of sharp pulse arrivals the location error is less than 10 m. Seismoacoustic pulse center distributions obtained after two concussion blastings are presented.},

Some studies were made at various temperatures using X-ray and microscopy techniques on the determination of specific temperature values and ranges of transitions occurring during heat treatment of raw, oxidized and carbonized fibers and changes in their structure. The strongest changes of fibers were found at oxidizing treatment temperature; such fibers are characterized by high exothermic effect, change of crystallites symmetry and occurrence of optical anisotropy.},

abstract = {The activity of lysozyme was studied in the following body fluids using the diffusion method on agarose gel: blood serum of adults and children, umbilical cord blood serum, cerebrospinal fluid, amniotic fluid, urine, saliva, gastric juice, bile, tears, mothers' milk, sperm of a healthy subject, and exudates. From the results obtained it was found that lysozyme is present in almost all body fluids, though in different amounts. In serum its activity is normally from 7 to 13 mg/l. The highest content was found in tears, about 120 times higher than in serum. A considerable amount of lysozyme was found in gastric juice, about 8 times more than in normal serum. Lysozyme activity is lowest in or absent from urine, bile and cerebrospinal fluid. In other body fluids the activity of lysozyme was found to be the same as in serum. © 1974.},

abstract = {It was observed that the activity of lysozyme in the serum and urine is significantly raised in cases of myeloid leukemia and in certain renal diseases. A rise in the serum lysozyme level was found also in patients with Hodgkin's disease. In cases of lymphatic leukemia the serum activity of this enzyme was low, lower even than in the healthy subjects. In the light of these results the authors suggest that determinations of lysozyme in serum and urine may be clinically useful and should be included into the complex of routine laboratory investigations.},
