abstract = {Temperate fens are rapidly losing their specialized species. This applies even to seemingly untouched fens, in which the moss layer in particular is undergoing rapid succession. We analysed historical and recent vegetation-plot data from fens in the agricultural landscape on the Bohemian Massif (Czech Republic) to test the hypotheses that (i) more acidicolous and/or competitively stronger species that benefit from increased nutrient availability regionally increase in frequency and in percentage cover, and (ii) these competitively stronger bryophytes have become more tolerant of high pH because of the increased nutrient supply. We worked with two datasets: a precise dataset (the most similar pairs of samples from the same fens) and a large dataset (all of the historical and recent samples from the area studied). We found that calcicolous brown mosses specialized for growing in fens have recently been retreating to places with the highest pH, being replaced by more nutrient-demanding species such as Calliergonella cuspidata, Sphagnum palustre, S. teres and Straminergon stramineum in most of rich fens. Sphagnum fallax and S. flexuosum spread only in poor fens. At the level of individual species, the intensity of change in species abundance (cover-weighted frequency change) correlated significantly with the median potassium concentration in the biomass of species based on a large set of recent data. We conclude that nature conservancy authorities should monitor changes in the species composition of the moss layer as this may signal the initial phase of nutrient enrichment of seemingly intact fens in agricultural landscapes.},

The Bohemian Forest and South Bohemia were chosen as study areas. Nine types of landscape spatial appeal were identified in the study area. Two most important types were defined based on their appeal where there are rare relic features in the natural environment dominated by the presence of peat bogs and natural habitats with scrub undergrowth or virgin forests. These types were also found in the areas with the greatest potential for tourism development. However, these areas are also the most important from the point of view of nature conservation and landscape protection in Central Europe. © 2014,Anton Melik Geographical Institute. abstract = {The aim of this paper is to assess the current situation in the sale of milk through vending machines in the context of the previous period of the decline in milk consumption, the transition of the Czech Republic towards the market economy, the transformation of agriculture, the entry into the EU and the concentration in the milk market and to define the basic motivational factors and barriers of the development of this distribution path. Technical problems with sales, intent to diversify milk selling and aiming the high profitability of the sale are the reasons for operating vending machines that are correlated with the share of this selling channel on producers' total sales of milk. Vending machines are inhibited by misinformation from state authorities; other problems are weak support by media and low consumer awareness. The expectations of the operators concerning the development of the situation of the milk vending machines are rather optimistic: 36% of them expect an increase in sales, 48% expect the stagnation and only 16% expect the decrease.},

abstract = {The aim of this paper is to assess the relationship between the price of accommodation and the urban space and character of the place. The price and spatial connections (together with the quality of the provided services) become an important motive for clients when choosing a concrete accommodation establishment. As the competition is very difficult in the field of accommodation establishments and the supply multiply surpasses the demand, there is an intensive search for miscellaneous strategies of engaging in the competition. The built-up territory of the town Ceské Budejovice was chosen as a model territory. The prices of the summer season 2012 have been entered into the analysis. The impact of the location was assessed on the level of the type of land-use. The distribution of the accommodation establishments in the studied is highly uneven, without any more significant tendency to the creation of the spatial clusters. It is fundamentally influenced especially by the distance of the historical center. A price map was formed identifying the zones with the above-average prices, as well as the zones with the highly below-average prices.},

abstract = {The organic farming shows growth trend all over the world. It became an integral part of the agricultural production not only in the developed countries, but also in the so called Third World countries. In the latter countries, the organic farming develops mainly in connection with the fair trade projects. The share of the organic farming in the agricultural land is in many countries above 10%, including the Central and Eastern European countries. The Czech Republic actively supports the organic production. The share of the Czech organic farming in the agricultural land has overpassed 11.5%. The paper deals with organic production in the South Bohemian Region. The aim is to determine main changes in the structure of the organic production in the period 2008-2011, specifically in connection with the changes in the subsidy policy. The increase of individual organically farmed areas correlates positively with the increase of subsidies set up within the Programme of rural development 2007-2013. At the same time, it is obvious that those subsidies affect the diversity of the agricultural crops. © 2014, Journal of Central Europian Agriculture.},

abstract = {The coal has been mined in the Karviná area for more than 150 years. During the course of time mining areas were continuously extended at the expense of the settled areas. At the beginnings the mining was limited, but later, namely under conditions of centrally planned economy in the period between 1950s and 1980s, it was heavily intensified. Then, as a result of economic restructuring of the Czech Republic mining was reduced in the region to be re-developed in the last decade again. The expansion of coal mining has been continuously affecting the socio-economic structure of local population (huge working immigration; industrialisation; construction of mass housing for miners - miners dormitories; later housing estates etc.; displacement of settlements), surrounding landscape (subsidence of terrain; undermining; hydrological changes and formation of artificial lakes; occurrence of plenty of post-mining brownfields after the reduction of mining etc.), but also contemporary outward, image and socio-spatial structure of cities (dominance housing in housing estates; effects of communists spatial urban planning etc.). Currently, negotiations about expansion of coal mining are in progress in this region, namely the city parts of Karviná (Staré Město) and Orlová (Výhoda) should be affected. In the introductory parts of this paper social, economical and environmental aspects of coal mining on the development of regions and connected problems are discussed and both cities are shortly presented. The questionnaire survey focused on perceptions of after-mining renewal and potential expansion of mining in the area of cities of Karviná and Orlová was conducted (n=1000). As the most important predictor that influences perception of mining and renewal, employment in mining companies has been identified. The higher education respondents achieved, the higher level of opposition against mining was manifested. The correlation was also found between the level of income and the agreement with expansion of mining. It can be concluded that employees of mining company, less educated population and people with higher income agreed with economic development of the city that is based on mining.},

abstract = {Transformations of economy and society, which had begun in the Eastern and Central European countries in the 1990ies, have also occasioned a profound change of the urban environment. Extensive de-industrialization led not only to the rise of neglected and abandoned objects and industrial estates, but also to an increase of technical, environmental, and above all social deprivations and risks. Brno, a monocentric city, has been very important already in the pre-industrial era. Its abandoned production plants and attendant social and other problems are located mostly in the immediate vicinity of its historical centre (transitional zone or the inner city) which further increases citizens' negative perceptions of these phenomena. On the other hand, abandoned lots adjacent to the city centre often have the greatest potential for new construction. Grounded in theory and research of socio-spatial perception of the local populace, this study presents the revitalization possibilities and risks of exactly this kind of space, which can be viewed as both the largest development area in the city and simultaneously as an area which is abandoned and neglected, with a host of social, technical and other problems.},

Students on three different study programmes were chosen as respondents for Q-sort with photos of 48 tourist sites. Principal components factor analysis of respondents sorting revealed three main factors of attractiveness perception: presence of dominant attractiveness, natural landscape versus cultural-historical site, harmony of landscape. Impact of tourist segments was revealed for the first two factors. Hierarchical clustering of cluster analysis was then used to obtain homogenous groups of photos. Nine types were revealed: (a) wetlands; (b) forest springs; (c) historical monuments rather of a marginal character; (d) perspective horizons of various content; (e) technical treatments; (f) historical dominants; (g) waterfalls; (h) alpine (wild) rivers; (i) harmonic landscape. The aim of the study was to find out what the subjective approach to the burnout syndrome issue is among algiatry experts including its prevention. Quantitative research was conducted from November 2011 to January 2012 in the form of questionnaire research (Burnout Syndrome Symptom Inventory - "BSSI"). The quantitative research sample consisted of 47 doctors from pain management workplaces from the whole Czech Republic (hospitals and private). The quantitative research showed statistically higher rate (p < 0.05) of tendency to burnout syndrome in pain therapists working at hospitals compared to their colleagues from private facilities. No significant differences were found in terms of age, sex, number of children in a family and number of treated patients. The most frequent symptoms of the syndrome in the respondents were irritation, lack of empathy, tiredness or loss of work enthusiasm. The most frequent protective factors are humour, breaks, discussion with colleagues, sport activities, hobbies or spending free time with families.},

Consequently, the paper aims to discover, if the strategy formulated by the consumer co-operative Jednota České Budějovice was a good strategy. The core of this strategy is the orientation on the region, local and regional food and food products and the co-operation with local small and medium suppliers. Another part of this strategy is also the permanent control of quality of these products and creation of the special private label - Quality food from our region. The consumer co-operative co-operates also with the regional grouping under another label - Tastes great. Southbohemian. The assessment is done by means of the analysis of a questionnaire survey that was done among consumers in the South Bohemia in 2011. The strongest factor differentiating customers of the retail chain TERNO from other consumer is the orientation on regional or local products, which explains about 41% of variability. Other differentiating factors are environment-friendly production and selling and quality of food. All these three factors explain in total 66.5% of variability of the data set.},

abstract = {The aim of this paper is to assess the relation between the character of the interpretive trail and the imposition of a charge on the entrance. This was done using the discrete choice experiment that involves eight attributes, seven of which are with three levels: the overall character of the trail, the way that the route signs are used in the terrain, the ways of providing information, the length of the trail, the way of the routing, the focus of the trail, and the price of the entrance. There is also one with two levels that involves the existence of the places for rest. The fractional factorial design was used (the orthogonal main effects plan) and the Multinomial Logit Model was used in analyzing the data. The 2,830 choices were done by random sampled visitors from eight tourist locations in the Tourist Regions of the Šumava Mts. and South Bohemia during the summer season 2012. The impact of the character of the trail was especially detected in the model. Except for that, the equipment of the trail and its length have had the fundamental impact on the choice of the trail as well. Those longer and worse equipped trails have a significantly lower degree of utility for the respondents. What is quite surprising is that the respondents refused the ecotourism elements of the interpretive trails, such as the possibility of going through the trail on horseback or the accompaniment of an expert who would provide some comments, as it is common to do this at historical attractions within those sightseeing paths.},

abstract = {Selected data of nest biology of the Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus) (Aves Podicipediformes) in specific fishpond conditions in the Protected Landscape Area and Biosphere Reserve Třeboňsko (Czech Republic) were analysed. An interdependence of dimensions of the nesting dent was found: the wider the dent, the deeper it was. A positive correlation was also found between the total nest height and the nest height above water level. Differences in most measured characteristics in relation to the number of eggs were not found (the positive correlation with the width and depth of the nest dent only). A positive correlation between the distance from the nearest nest and the water depth was found. The results also suggest a relationship between the distance of the nearest nest and the distance from the free water level, as well as between the water depth near the nest and the nest distance from the free water level. Nests near the shore were denser than nests on the free water level. The mutual distance of the nearest nests was linked to the location of vegetation and water depth. In the case of group nesting of more pairs, no inclination to form spatial clusters or regularity in deployment was found. These observations confirmed the ability of Great Crested Grebe to adapt to the specific environmental conditions of intensively managed fishponds including higher nesting density. © 2013 Dipartimento di Biologia, Università di Firenze, Italia.},

abstract = {The aim of the paper is to evaluate differences in the quality perception among particular segments of demand. Data for analysis were collected by means of the questionnaire survey among clients of accommodation establishments. The research in accommodation establishments succeeded to identify four factors of the perception of quality of services provided in those establishments, when only accommodation and catering services were taken into consideration. Age appeared to be an important criterion for the evaluation the of the quality of offered services as the differences in the quality perception among particular age groups were proved for three of four identified factors of the quality perception. The factors are as follows: "environment of the accommodation establishment", "hygiene in accommodation establishment", "service in the catering part of the establishment" and "quality of the meals". The duration of stay as well as the gender of the respondents infl uences the quality of perception only in the perception of the "quality of meal" factor. Compared to the duration of stay, the repetition of the stay is a considerably important factor in causing the variability of the answers on the rate of the quality perception. The purpose of travel was also proven to be a criterion affecting the rate of the quality perception of the first three factors, whereas the impact of the criterion "client's travel companionship" was proven in case of the first and third factor.},

abstract = {The aim of this study is to assess the impact of a several factors on satisfaction with a visit to water-based natural attractions. After reviewing relevant studies, it was hypothesized that satisfaction is influenced by push motivations, pull motivations, on-site experience, perceived quality and perceived values of visit. As a method of data reduction, the factor analysis based on principal component analysis was used for multi-item constructs (push motivations; pull motivations; on-site experience; and perceived quality). Three factors of pull motivation (pleasant 'natural' environment; heritage and culture; accessibility), two factors of push motivation (social gathering; escape), one factor of on-site experience (pleasure), and one factor of perceived quality (commonplaceness) were used in further analyses. A satisfaction model was constructed and tested through a two-stage structural modelling process with the maximum likelihood of estimation method. Multiple indicators were used only for exogenous constructs; all endogenous constructs were indicated by a single indicator - in cases of value and satisfaction by those directly measured. The results confirmed the causal path: pull motivation → perceived quality → perceived value → satisfaction, but indicated the on-site experience as a simultaneously effecting mediation element: pull motivation → perceived quality → on-site experience → perceived value → satisfaction. However, the linkage of push motives on the causal chain of predictors of satisfaction was not proved.},

abstract = {The aim of this paper is to assess the relations between partial components of image of various touristically attractive locations. This research is focused on specific locations in vulnerable areas since the sustainable way of the tourism development concerns them in the highest manner and the touristic pressure on these locations permanently increases. The paper makes effort to extend the usual and nearly traditional understanding of the image in the tourism, which is usually related only to the problems of brand and/or the tourist destination. This is done through a survey realized at 26 selected locations with the aim to obtain 64 completely filled-in questionnaires in each location. Particular statements of respondents concerning the image of the visited location were summarized to the 20 categories. A multidimensional analysis was used to reveal the relations in partial answers. Authors have identified an important number of elements of image of the tourist attractions. By means of the analysis authors have identified differences between historic attractions and nature attractions. However, authors have identified simultaneously both the natural type of the image of the destination and the culture-historical type of image of the destination in all studied locations.},

abstract = {The spatial pattern of anglers' movements among fisheries was analyzed using detrended correspondence analysis (DCA), canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) and gravity modelling. Anglers choose, on the national level, a destination fishery mainly according to its spatial position, as longitude and latitude are the primary significant factors revealed by the forward selection procedure of CCA (the first two DCA axes explain 5.9% and the first two CCA axes 5.3% of variability). Distance as a spatial attribute is not only the main factor determining travel to all of Czech fisheries but also travel to specific tourist fisheries. Distance travelled is also influenced by the type of fishery - trout fisheries (Beta coefficient = 1.725) and fisheries on reservoirs larger than 80 ha (Beta coefficient = 1.760) are attended by anglers from the more distant local organizations. The mobility of anglers also varies with the number of inhabitants of their domicile - the impact of distance between the local organization and fishery is strongest for the smallest towns (up to 500 inhabitants; Beta coefficient = 2.456) and weakest for large cities (with more than 50 thousand inhabitants; Beta coefficient = 1.923).},

abstract = {The goal of this paper is the assessment of the impact of personal experience on visitors' perceptions of the environments of selected tourist attractions. The cognitive paradigm of environmental perception research was chosen and the Mehrabian-Russell general measure of information rate was used. Students from the University of South Bohemia from three different study programmes (faculties) were used to represent three segments: eco-tourists, neutral and mass-tourists. The research was undertaken on three tourist sites with different types of occurrences of water in their landscapes -pond, river flood plain and peat bog. All three localities are situated within the UNESCO biosphere reserve and landscape protected area of "Třeboňsko " (Třeboň area), Czech Republic. Particular sites were selected with regard to the accessibility of these sites for visitors and to their importance for the concentration of visitors. The measurements took place three times -before visit, on-site and after visit. Explanatory factor analysis revealed three factors of perception -spaciousness, novelty and complexity. These factors differ among localities and each site had a different impact on the site perception of visitors. In the case of spaciousness, it was found that the visit had no impact on visitor perception. Visitation influenced the perception of novelty in the same way at two of the sites- both localities, after visitation, were perceived as being more novel. Visitation also influenced perception of complexity; this time, however, in different ways that were dependant on the uniqueness of each site.},

A survey of 1,584 domestic visitors at nine historical sites in south-western Bohemia, in summer 2008, revealed some interesting differences between five groups of visitors, largely differentiated by sex and age. These five groups were used for further analysis in studying length of stay, type of holiday, general interest in history, and in 15 recreational behaviours: statistically significant differences are reported. These visitors ranked many cultural-historical attractions as 'important', but the highest ranked was a small number of extraordinary monuments.},

The aim is to reveal the push and pull motivation factors of rural anglers and their perception of conflicts. A self-organized questionnaire survey of members of the Czech Fishing Union in the Tř eboň region was used to obtain required data. Descriptive statistic and factor analysis were used for result analysis. Rural anglers built up a diversified community because seven different push motivation factors have been found. There have been also found several types of the potentially important environment settings for anglers. Environment related motivation issues have been identified as the most important. The conflict analysis has revealed mainly the complexity of the environment related motivation issues as well as the complexity of relations between the anglers and other recreational use of water.},

abstract = {The paper deals with the analysis of organic food selling within the chain store companies operating in the region of South Bohemia. The analysis is based on a questionnaire survey done in 2007 the aim of which was particularly to check the organic food selling strategies, product mix, selling conditions and culture in the particular chain store companies, finally at the end to define strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and possible threats. Following the analysis of the lists of offered products, the authors have determined the so-called chain stores of "good practice". These chain store companies are characterized by a quite wide organic food assortment, a developed sales promotion and they try to co-operate with customers and provide them with the needful information on organic foods.},

abstract = {Changes of vegetation between 1984 and 2004 were studied in Ruda Natural Reserve. Two different methods usually used for monitoring vegetation changes were used - (i) repeating vegetation sampling and (ii) comparing vegetation maps using GIS. The results of both methods show succesional changes to more dense vegetation types. All indicate accelerated succession from open fen vegetation to the forest vegetation. Generally the fen vegetation became less spread and more isolated and pauperised and became more uniform. Comparison of increasing and decreasing species suggest a trend towards more acid-tolerant, nutrient-tolerant and shadow tolerant species. The difference between two used methods is in scale. The first method gives more detailed information about species composition, but it can miss changes in spatial composition of vegetation. In this case the second method is useful. © 2007 Taylor & Francis Group.},

abstract = {Vegetation-environment relationships were investigated in fens of the Třeboň basin (Czech Republic), which are enriched by nutrients and calcium from intensively managed and limed fishponds to test the hypothesis of altered gradient structure after long-term nutrient enrichment in fens. Water-table depth, pH, conductivity, N-NH4+, N-NO3-, PO43-, total P, SO42-, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+ and Fe were measured four times in 30 vegetation plots of 16 m2 during the 2004 vegetation season. Both constrained and unconstrained ordination (DCA; CCA) were used to relate environmental factors to the species composition of the vegetation. The relationships among particular factors were revealed using PCA. Four fen vegetation types obtained by TWINSPAN classification were compared with measured factors using repeated measures ANOVA. Vegetation types differed significantly in water-table depth, water pH and Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, and N-NO3- content. The concentration of major nutrients fluctuated noticeably during vegetation season and displayed large variation within vegetation types. Temporarily the concentration of different nutrients reached extremely high values. However, high nutrient supply has not altered the gradient structure of the vegetation. Water pH and water-table depths were found to be two major determinants of species variation in fishpond-margin fens, as in the majority of other environments studied throughout the Northern Hemisphere. Species richness of both vascular plants and bryophytes was partly explained by pH. However, the extent of variation in total mineral richness and potassium concentration were the next two most important variables determining bryophyte species richness. Water in flooded poor-fen vegetation, directly affected by water from limed fishponds, had calcium and magnesium concentration similar to fishpond water. The calcium concentrations of about 20 mg 1-1 in typical poor-fen vegetation have no analogy in the ecological literature. High phosphorus level presumably buffers the effect of calcium by enhancing bryophyte biomass depositing superfluous calcium. In conclusion, extremely high long-term nutrient supply to fishpond-margin fens have not altered gradient structure, but shifted chemical limits of plant communities.},

abstract = {The composition of the vegetation of fishpond mires in the Třeboň Basin (Czech Republic) was studed in relation to temporal fluctuations in certain environmental factors. The water-table depth, water pH and electrical conductivity at 49 permanent plots were measured at approximately three-week intervals from March to October 2003. Minimum, maximum, mean, median and variation in the above-mentioned environmental factors were correlated with vegetation composition. The most important environmental factors explaining the variation in vegetation were mean pH and maximum water-table level. Median conductivity increased with increase in waterlogging and eutrophication. Some seasonal trends in the dynamics of these parameters were observed. The lowest conductivity was in spring, increased continuously throughout summer and peaked in autumn. In contrast, water level decreased in summer, when evapotranspiration was greatest, and rose in autumn after heavy rainfall. The pH increased from March to June, then was stable and decreased at the end of summer. Seasonal trends were generally identical in all vegetation types. The fluctuations in the environmental factors were so considerable that they may influence the reliability of vegetation environmental analyses.},
